When reading and watching the videos about the meta-verse honestly as cool as it sounded and looked, it terrified me slightly. For example how the metaverse would be supported by many different companies. I’m not exactly sure if it’s the fact that it’s a digital world in our own world that we are creating or the fact that as the years go on it seems the virtual and online social world is expanding. I feel by doing that we are not focusing on the present and in front of us instead we are creating a reality for ourselves. Facebook is creating a world where people can come together and speak and collaborate about work. As convenient as this can sound, social media and the workplace should not come together unless it has somewhat to do with influencing. The fact that there will be different meta-verse worlds that exist is cool because you can talk and meet new people with the same interest. Yet, I dislike the fact that we are really taking away from a face-to-face experience and we’re trying to make everything virtual feel real. The biggest concern with this all is privacy because companies are tracking your location and are selling sensitive data. No matter what platform we use we leave digital trails. This can lead to hacking and more severe issues with malware, hardware, and computer systems. Not only that but what you post on social media and your interactions could possibly get you into some trouble or even stalked. As much as I’m for the progression of the Internet I feel we are not protecting those using it. Due to the furthering of this technology or these online virtual worlds, no one is guaranteed privacy. Personally, I’m more afraid of the problems we may face in the future.
