Third learning journal

From the digital trails, public and private data, API I have been aware that social media has shared and swapped my information between sites. I understand that social media sites need to see and understand people's usage throughout the app in order to enhance their apps to keep their users coming. At the end of the day, the user agrees to most of the Data and information being shared. Even as years progress they are now giving you the option. When you decline, do they actually stop researching you? I don’t think so. Other apps are somewhat collecting your data and sharing it with them so even though the app may be declined other resources are collecting it for them.

The reading talks about the abilities and capabilities of Social media companies. Not only that but the marketing to the keywords we use on search engines. How content authors can Navigate their searches. Knowing all of this does not bother me because it’s simply featuring content I want to see. For example the RSS feed I was not familiar with until I read the readings for class. The really simple syndication keeps you updated with literally all the feed you're interested in. It’s all in one place which is way more beneficial. Versus going on different sites looking and maneuvering through the website. Yes, I understand in a way this means no privacy. One wrong search can lead to legal troubles or investigations. How much freedom we have on the internet I could debate all day. There are pros and cons to each side. It seems the further we progress the more data they must collect to enhance their usage.

  1. I agree that I don't believe they stop tracking and researching us even if we disagree, because quite honestly I don't believe there's anything we can do to actually stop them, unfortunately.
