My thoughts on Social Media
Prompt 1
When it comes to social media my do’s and don’ts are a wide variety. When it comes to what you should do on social media I personally love authenticity; which my opinion a lot of people lack. Presenting yourself in the way you want to be seen. At the same time keep in mind Instagram and certain social media platforms can be used for business. People can promote and market themselves to certain audiences. As long as someone is using it in a positive and productive manner; anything is a do for me. The don’ts are simple: don't be a troll or a hater. Take the negative energy and put it into a workout or something else out of social media because it’s just generally unnecessary. When I first got on social media I didn’t really post much simply because I did not know what to post. Versus now where I post pictures of where I travel, fun getaways, vacations, and funny Memes for the story. The main social media platform frequently used by me is Instagram. If I could go back and provide knowledge when I first started using it, it would be on the lines of don’t be consumed with fake standards. All social media people heavily edit and change things to look more appealing.
Prompt 2
When it comes to social media I love the idea of self-expression but social media could be a tough place to do it. After all, it is one person‘s platform so at the end of the day they do have the right to express however they feel or whatever they want. Whether the followers agree with it or not. On the topic of selfies, I don’t see anything wrong with it, it’s just another version of self-expression. Online images I believe are OK as long as you are claiming it as your own and you’re giving the creator/editor or whoever credit for the work. On the other hand, the rules and criteria for posting are very real. Personally, I have been censored when speaking on certain topics because they did not fit within guidelines. Even though I do believe in the fact that people should have the right to post whatever they want. I contradict myself in the sense that I do not believe that everybody has the right to post what or how they feel. Simply in the rights of protection or violations of some sort I do not believe people should have the right to go on and express extremism of any sort. For example, I do not believe someone should have the right to go on the Internet and express that they want to harm or hurt mass groups of people. I believe people should be censored if they’re being racist, sexist, homophobic anything that’s just discriminatory or harmful. This leads to the topic of using social media and comparing it to others which one should never honestly do. Social media is full of a lot of fake standards and wannabes. Simply I hope whoever’s on the social media platform has enough faith and belief in themselves that they will not compare themselves to standards that may not even exist in the real world. Lastly, quitting social media is not a bad thing. Reminding people that they should be present in the real world versus online in a world that they can create. This can be really unhealthy and detrimental to someone’s mental health because they have a lack of reality.
I agree with your ideas about authenticity. I think it is often lacking in social media posts.
